Geography defines East Tennessee as a land of mountains and valleys and with a history and heritage apart from the rest of the state. This Day In East Tennessee History

December 11, 1845

The Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad is chartered on this day in 1845. Construction did not begin until 1848, and it was not completed until 1854 with connections to the Western and Atlantic Railroad.
